Mariovo is a region in southern Macedonia following the valley of Crna Reka (Black River), flowing through the largest canyon in Macedonia, Skochivirska Klisura. Less than half an hour drive from here, we live on the 13th floor, wrapped in plastic – walls covered with styrofoam insulation, pvc windows, sticky air and constant buzz of traffic noise.
Smart people live here in the village of Gornjane, where all houses are made from adobe and mud mortar. Nearby is the monastery from the 14th century.
It is peculiar how all these structures survived a heavy earthquake sixty years ago, unlike modern buildings in the Skopje valley where almost everything was demolished.
My mum was born in a house like this and she is always telling me what a fun was to make a muddy mixture for houses by treading.
Maybe someday we will move back closer to the ground where houses are natural, healthier and safer and air smells of fresh breeze.

Hiking to a fortificated ancient area Çuka e Ajtoit is always an adventure. It is one of the most important ancient fortification in Albania, the scenery is thrilling, as well as the view ones you get to the top of the fortress. Çuka e Ajtoit is located in the south part of Albani, between Butrinti (the famous archeological site) and Konispoli. The village in the foothill is called Çiflik.

The fortification belongs to 4th Century B.C to one of the most important tributes of Kaonia in Epir. They were the tribute extended in all this territory. And the site continued from 4 th century B.C to Roman period until the late antiquity.
