SEE Heritage Network meeting & Training on accession to EU funds

The 10th Meeting of the SEE Heritage Network took part on 8 June 2012 in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia. The meeting was accompanied with the training on accession to EU funds with a special emphasis on IPA.

Both the meeting and the training were organized by the SEE Heritage Network Secretariat, and were financially supported by the Headley Trust from the United Kingdom, in the frame of the Headley Trust grant to support the network of cultural heritage NGOs in the region, under the Grant No. HED 5483.

According to the project proposal approved by the Headley Trust, the SEE Heritage Network should organize 2 annual meetings - in 2011 and 2012. However, although the funds were approved for both 2 meetings, the SEE Heritage Network managed to fund raise and to provide additional funds for the meeting in 2011 - this meeting was supported by the Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB) through SIDA (Swedish International Development Agency). So, the Secretariat asked in its interim report to the Headley Trust to roll-over in 2012 the amount for the meeting in 2011.

In 2012, contacting its members, the Secretariat realized that there is a lack of knowledge and capacity for writing specific project proposals as required by the European Commission. Namely, after few open calls of the EC/IPA, the member organizations which applied faced difficulties in fulfillment the specific and rather complicated EC Application form and following the procedures for application. Therefore, the Secretariat thought of organizing a tailored training for its members on writing project proposals for EU funds, with emphasis to IPA (Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance). Such training is important for further development of the Network and for the capacity building of its members. The Secretariat asked the Headley Trust for permission to use the amount that was approved for the meeting in 2011 (which was actually saved and rolled-over in 2012) for organizing the training.

The Headley Trust approved this idea, and the training was organized following the 10th meeting in June in Skopje.
