pretrebisceSEE Heritage member organization DRAGODID proudly announces the 9th dry-stone international student/young professionals’ volunteer camp Petrebišća 2018. The camp will be held in an abandoned dry-stone seasonal village Petrebišća on Učka mountain, July 28th – August 5th 2018.

Participants will:
- learn dry-stone basics
- learn to shape stone using hand tools
- build a dry-stone wall ”from scratch”
- repair a stone slate roof

- participate in an informal dry-stone competiton and a petanque competition!

There will be interesting lectures about building techniques, architectural heritage and related topics, as well as a walking and hiking tour along NP Učka.

Location – past, present, future
Petrebišća is an abandoned seasonal village of simple stone huts, situated on a high plateau on Učka mountain and surrounded by forest. The History and Mythology Trail Trebišća-Perun was established by Nature park Učka, adding touristic key-point significance to Petrebišća village. Since 2010., Dragodid Association, Mošćenička Draga Municipality and Nature Park Učka in collaboration have organized summer students’ workshops in Petrebišća. The goal is to transfer knowledge about traditional building techniques to generations of future young professionals. Reconstructed dry-stone buildings and landscape features are to be re-used as hikers’ shelters and open spaces for various cultural events.

Who is the workshop for?
The workshop is open for building and heritage students and enthusiasts interested in traditional building techniques and simple rewarding outdoor work. 15 out of 20 open places will be filled through this call, while remaining 5 will be filled through the French heritage volunteer network REMPART.

Others are welcome to visit us for a day or two during the period July 3oth – August 5th (upon prior notice).
All participants must be 18+ years old.

How is the camp organized?
The camp is situated on a nice and shady meadow. Everybody brings their own waterproof tent, sleeping bag & mattress. A big military tent is put up as a kitchen, storeroom and “living room” for all. Limited water usage, pit toilet, campers’ shower, 3 meals per day (1-2 cooked). Vegetarians welcome. GSM signal is weak, electricity is used only for charging batteries. Participants help with the food preparation and camp maintenance.

Participation fee: 350 kn. Working language: English/Croatian
