Context
The Summer School of Architecture is an educational and scientific project of the professional NGO “The Group of Architects” from Belgrade, established in 2010. The main idea of this project is to bring together international experts and students of various disciplines to collaborate, researching the possibilities for sustainable restoration of tangible heritage. The project activities consist of lectures, practical analysis and field work. Project always has the preproduction (announcement, registration and preparation), organization (onsite work) and postproduction phase which aims at the publishing of the follow up material. At the moment of its emergence, the project was reacting to the lack of hands-on professional training and programs of informal education in field of heritage in Serbia, starting off as a regional project with an ambition to grow. So far 40 students of architecture and technology have attended the three Schools held since 2010, 27 peer educators, 34 professionals of various backgrounds. The participants came from all the countries of former Yugoslavia, Hungary, Austria, Greece and Turkey. The project started off as the first extracurricular school of architecture in Serbia, 20 years after Bogdan Bogdanović’s school in Mali Popović was demolished and closed. Project started with the ambition to encourage participation in multidisciplinary international projects and to communicate with professional circles, dealing with the implementation and sustainability of projects of heritage protection within the local, regional, and European framework. The main objective of the consortium, revolving around the project, is to create efficient platform for theory and practice in implementation of the projects of heritage preservation. By maintaining the continuity the Summer School of Architecture emerged as a form of additional (professional) training for students of architecture, young professionals, residents of Bač and local government. Another important goal of the project is a promotion of the additional (informal) professional education with a compulsory element of field work and with local community. The program of The Summer School of Architecture encompasses: lectures, workshops, site visits and interviews with the residents, discussions, debates, and short-term projects. By means of promoting, the project aims at gathering mixed (international + local) group of students in fields of architecture, art, conservation and technology. This group of students will be trained by the international group of peers (Serbia, Austria and Slovakia) and local experts (Novi Sad, Belgrade) responsible for protection and restoration of the monuments.
