UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee has inscribed Albania’s Gashi River and Rrajce, two locally protected areas, on the World Heritage. The decision was made in early July 2017 at the 41st session of the World Heritage Committee in Krakow, Poland.

SEE Heritage member 4 GRADA DRAGODID is organizing a workshop about dry stone technique in a beautiful setting of the Nature Park Učka.

Dates: 29/07/2017 – 06/08/2017

The program is designed according to thematic units that include the basics and advanced drywall techniques, the restoration of a straw roof and gathering of stone slates from a small quarry.

Subjects:

1. Basic and advanced drystone wall techniques lessons
2. Reconstruction of a straw roof
3. Gathering of stone slates from a small querry

The meeting was organized within the conference Cultural Heritage Counts for South-East Europe. The main organizer and initiator of the conference was Europa Nostra Serbia, followed by support of Europa Nostra and SEE Heritage network.

Since all SEE Heritage member organizations were invited and encouraged to join the conference, the annual meeting of the network for the 2017 conveniently took place in Belgrade too, before the conference.

Every two years docomomo (the international committee for documentation and conservation of buildings, sites and neighbourhoods of the Modern Movement) organizes an international conference, bringing together docomomo members and friends from its 72 national Working Parties, as an opportunity for in-depth exploration of an important theme or aspect of the Modern Movement.

Transylvania Trust launches at Bánffy Castle, Bonţida (Cluj Co., Romania), two Artists and Craftsmen in Residence programmes for artists, craftsmen, artisans, and creators interested in and preoccupied by the reinterpretation of historical values through contemporary methods. The residence programmes ensure the temporal and spatial conditions for learning and creation in an exceptional historical setting: Bánffy Castle, Bonţida.

SEE Heritage is excited to announce that the conference “Cultural Heritage Counts for (South-East) Europe” is to be held in Belgrade between 15 and 17 June 2017, along with capacity building days “Education and Citizen Engagement” organized by Europa Nostra, Europa Nostra Serbia and SEE Heritage Network in partnership with the Creative Europe Program and European Commission.

The Conference is organized on three important occasions:

SEE Heritage is promoting successful work of it's member organizations and is stimulating mutual collaboration. This spring we are collecting material for a PDF catalogue of GOOD PRACTICES.

Organizations of SEE Heritage network are invited to participate and contribute to this catalogue by sending examples of best practices.

Our member organization 4 GRADA DRAGODID received an interesting review of different agricultural and environmental subsidies that European countries provide for the construction and maintenance of hedges and dry stone walls.

The Review: Landscape elements Output

Citizens from around the world can now vote online for the Public Choice Award and rally support for the winning project(s) from their own or another European country. Voters have the chance to win a trip for two to Finland and be a special guest at the Awards Ceremony that will be held in the historic city of Turku on 15 May. During the ceremony, the seven Grand Prix laureates, each of whom will receive €10,000, and the Public Choice Award winner, chosen from among this year’s winning projects, will be announced.

PRIZREN FORTRESS (KALAJA)

Prehistoric, Roman and Late Antiquity cultural layers are preserved under its walls. The life here began back in the Late Bronze, and the fortress was built around 1500 years ago. The Fortress now has massive walls and various residing quarters belonging to later stages, such as medieval and Ottoman times. Through a systematic research, conservation and restoration work, it will be transformed into an open archeological museum and an important destination point for the cultural tourism of Prizren and Kosovo in general.
